Hand
painted glass is a traditional way to enhance a stained glass windows. It offers graphic elements, or warmth and depth such
as facial expressions in portraits. Kyle's illustrative paintings often elude the viewer
at first glance into thinking what they are looking at is a photograph.
The painting process is a timely one. The glass is completely covered in paint then dot by dot the paint is scratched off
with a needle like hand tool. When finished with the base layer of paint, the glass is fired and the paint, which is
crushed glass and pigment, melts onto the glass and becomes one. This process is duplicated for each color of paint.
No mistaking, painted glass adds a touch of illustrative artistry to
each piece.
